A new Car Alf

It's been a while since a decent Car Alf moment so this one didn't disappoint.

It started with Mrs Alf getting a puncture in the Scenic when picking up Number One Daughter. To cut a long story short, she managed to get a lift back in time for Number One Son to arrive home from school. When told of this I reminded her that she would have to come with me when I went to change the wheel so she could drive it back.

"In that case L can still go to Brownies."

So, we all piled into the ZS and drove back to L's school. At the crossroads just before the school someone ran into the back of me. No injuries, it was a very apologetic young girl driving her mother's Golf. But now I have a broken bumper to get replaced.

A mum of one of L's friends and fellow Brownies who lives in the village saw us and invited Mrs Alf and co back to her house whilst I changed the wheel on the Scenic. I check the manual. As expected it comes with a space saver wheel.

There is no space saver.

I look in the boot again. I look under the body where it should be. One side is full of exhaust
silencer, the other full of 3 mounting points for my missing space saver. At this point I feel like Basil Fawlty. I just need a large chocolate mousse to plunge my hands into in the world's most hopeful search for a spare wheel.

So, tomorrow, not only do I have to take L to school, try and find a tyre supplier with the correct tyre in stock and get the wheel to them, and get the garage to give me a quotation for the MG repairs, I also have to ring up the dealer who sold us the Scenic and ask where exactly is my space saver.

If he tells me it's in the same place as the spare key I'll probably lose my sense of humour.

The most tragic thing about this is that you bought a Renault.
